ICAR-ATARI Kolkata conferred Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antodaya Krishi Puraskar 2016 and Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Puraskar 2015 on 25.09.2016
As a part of celebrating the Birth Centenary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, one of the greatest socialist, economist and philosopher of India, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Govt. of India awarded Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antodaya Krishi Puraskar 2016 to the farmers of Bihar and Andaman & Nicobar today on 25th September 2016 at BD auditorium, Sector-III, Salt Lake, Kolkata. This award ceremony programme was organized by ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata for awarding Shri Deepak Kumar Singh of Banka, Bihar and Sri Ashok Kumar Sarkar of Nimbudera, North & Middle Andamans. In addition the Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Puraskar 2015 was also conferred on Shri Jitendra Kumar Singh of Vaishali, Bihar.
The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Bhagalpur chaired the ceremonial programme. Dr. A. K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Bhagalpur congratulated the farmers of Eastern India for securing the awards. He addressed the farmers on innovative agricultural farming. He suggested for the inclusion of climate resilient technologies in future while encouraging the farmers of West Bengal for awards. The Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor, Bisva Bharati, Shantiniketan and Forner DDG (Crop Science), ICAR graced the occasion as the chief guest. He emphasized on the recent approval of GST (Goods & Services Tax) and its overall impact on agricultural marketing scenario of the country in future. The Hon’ble Director of ICAR-CARI, Port Blair, Dr. S. Dam. Roy spoke on the life and work of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
In the begining, Dr. S. K. Roy, Director, ATARI, Kolkata welcomed all the dignitaries, scientists, farmers, officials of different sister departments including universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, press and media personnels. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, the Hon’ble Director of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Dr. B. K. Das, , the Head of NBSS & LUP, Kolkata Centre, Dr. D. C. Nayak were present and addressed the farmers on this occasion. A total of 300 farmers including farm women from different states of Eastern India were present in the event. The programme has brought a source of great enthusiasm among the farmers.
